DESTRUCTION METHODS

Digital Destruction

Digital Overwriting
Data sanitization enables a hard drive to be safely reused. WeRecycle! conducts Department of Defense Directive 5220.22-M overwrites using Blancco software. Blancco's industry leading technology ensures Department of Defense compliant data sanitization while also providing detailed and accurate hardware functionality testing and reporting. WeRecycle! can track any media in which destruction was not verified digitally, due to a malfunction or error in the drive, in which case the drive will be physically shredded. As part of our data security guidelines, WeRecycle! will randomly test hard drives that have been verified as overwritten.

Physical Destruction

Degaussing/Erasure
Degaussing is a physical form of destruction using a strong magnetic field that works for all digital media and renders hard drives unusable.

Crushing/Deformation
Hard drive deformation means crushing or smashing the drive to render it inoperable. With deformation, data can sometimes be recovered from large fragments of the platter and we recommend shredding all remaining fragments of the drive if this is done. WeRecycle!'s services include onsite physical destruction via a portable hard drive crusher.

Shredding
This is an absolute form of destruction. Hard drives are physically shred down to a pre-determined uniform particle size. WeRecycle! has a quad high speed shredder which we use to completely destroy your hard drives. Shredding is witnessed and verified and the machine uses a special screen to ensure materials are shred to a minimum particle size.

Reporting

WeRecycle! provides superior reporting for every hard drive that we process whether it was destroyed at a customer office site, at one of our facilities or both. Our customers receive detailed reports and certificates of destruction (PDF) with serial numbers and listed destruction method.
