WeRecycle!, Inc. Makes Charitable Donation to Meriden Community Center

Wallingford, CT, 10/30/2007 - WeRecycle!, Inc. donated five computers to Beat the Street Community Center on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in an effort to give back to the community while encouraging reuse and recycling of electronics.

WeRecycle!, an environmentally sound electronics recycling company in Wallingford, took part in this charitable event by providing each of the five families in need with a recycled and reusable computer endorsed by the Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher program. With efforts to sustain their commitment to sound recycling while giving back to the community, WeRecycle! selected Beat the Street as the receiver of this donation.

Beat the Street is a community center in Meriden that hosts charitable activities and donations to assist members of the area who are in need. Larry Pelletier, President of Beat the Street, said the effort was a great collaboration between giving companies that should attract more businesses that provide services to families in the Meriden area to help out.

"Our main objective was to come together as a community through civic organizations and companies, to empower Meriden families to prepare their kids for school," Pelletier said.

Michael Chiarella, Project Manager for WeRecycle!, arrived at Beat the Street with driver John Rosadini. The two drove up to dance groups practicing routines, tutoring sessions, and members engaged in studies to obtain their GED, all services provided by Beat the Street.

Chiarella and Rosadini unloaded the five computers from the company truck. Chiarella said the families were eager to receive WeRecycle!'s donations.

"The families were thrilled to see their new computers for the first time," Chiarella said. "They couldn't wait to get them home."

Nashsih Cohen, a representative from one of the five families, said she was excited to receive the computer.

"My kids asked with anticipation almost daily, 'When is the computer coming?'" Cohen said. "Having a computer may not have been possible if not for WeRecycle! and Beat the Street."

Meyssa Santiago, another family representative, said her kids couldn't wait to get their own computer.

"I expect that it will get a lot of use," Santiago said.

Pelletier from Beat the Street praised the collaboration between their organization and WeRecycle!

"We are reaching out to families through the use of computers," Pelletier said. "We are sharing resources and coming together through this project to empower families in need."

Pelletier commended WeRecycle! for their current and past efforts. WeRecycle! Recently donated $5,000 to the 4th annual Meriden Back to School Expo held by non profit Organizations Beat the Street Community Center Inc., Meriden-Wallingford NAACP and Meriden Rotary Club. This money was used to buy brand new school supplies for 1,000 children in Meriden.

"We were threatened by rain [at this past event], and members of WeRecycle! still showed up," said Pelletier.

Mick Schum, P.E., President of WeRecycle!, said his company is dedicated to their mission.

"Overall we have a couple key commitments," Schum said. "We are an environmentally sound company, and we encourage thinking green. But we also want to do all that we can to give back to the community."

WeRecycle! has taken part in numerous collection, donation, and awareness events.

"We plan to continue promoting both of those commitments," said Schum. "Through this donation, we were able to provide awareness on the importance of recycling while simultaneously providing five families in need with essential equipment to help them in their everyday lives."
