WeRecycle! Provides $5,000 Sponsorship for the Meriden Back to School Expo
Meriden, CT. -- WeRecycle!, Inc. donated $5,000 to sponsor the 2007 Back To School EXPO to benefit Meriden elementary school students. The event is organized by the Meriden Beat the Street Community Center, the Meriden/Wallingford branch of NAACP, the Meriden Rotary Club and the Board of Education. At the August 21st event, WeRecycle! passed out backpacks full of donated school supplies and also raffled off five refurbished computer systems to students who otherwise may not have access to the technology.
"We hope that providing this donation and our contribution to the EXPO, helps Meriden residents learn more about sustainability and reuse and the importance of keeping end-of-life electronics out of the municipal solid waste stream," said Gina Chiarella, Chief Operating Officer of WeRecycle!, Inc. "WeRecycle! is proud to be a resource to our community and we were very happy to be a part of this year's EXPO."
The annual book bag drive collects items from pencils to protractors so all children are prepared when they go back to school. In addition to providing the much needed supplies, the EXPO provides resources and information to help motivate parents to get involved with all of their children's educational experiences.
"The Meriden Back to School EXPO was happy to have WeRecycle! as a participant," said Larry Pelletier, Beat the Street Community Center Director. "Their sponsorship gave us the opportunity to provide 1000 book bags to children in the Meriden community while also educating parents about the importance of electronics recycling." The day of the event, 600 book bags were passed out to elementary school children. The 400 remaining book bags will be equally divided for distribution to non-profit agencies that help children in the Meriden community as well as to local school principals.
