WeRecycle! E-Waste Collection Event Keeps Over 12,000 Pounds of Used Computers and Potentially Hazardous Components from Landfills.
Wallingford, Connecticut. - On Saturday, June 30, WeRecycle!, Inc. partnered with HP and Talbot County Maryland to run a free residential electronic recycling collection event in Easton, Maryland that kept more than 5 tons of used electronics from going to landfills.
Residents came to the collection events to drop off their used computers, copiers, fax machines, and other household electronics. One resident was quoted "This is great! I have more stuff at home. When are you going to have another collection?"
HP sponsors these events throughout the United States as part of its HP Recycling Days program. The program was created to minimize electronic waste and its potentially hazardous components going to landfills and to help consumers conveniently recycle end-of-life computers and electronics in an environmentally responsible way.
Easton was the first in a series of two HP events in Maryland. The second event will be held in Baltimore, Maryland on August 25th at one of the nation's preeminent green building sites, Montgomery Park, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
More than 5 tons of material was collected at the Easton, Maryland event. To divert the same amount of green house gasses from our atmosphere 59 cars would have to stay off the road for one year, and the amount of energy saved is the same amount it would take to power 83 US households for one year! Great job Easton, Maryland!
