What is IT Asset Recovery?
The management of retired IT equipment and electronics from physical removal to the proper recycling of non-reusable equipment.
Why is it important to have a program in place for obsolete electronics and other hazardous waste disposal?
There are stringent environmental guidelines for the disposal of electronics and hazardous waste. What's more, there are privacy regulations for removing sensitive data from electronic media. Organizations that do not comply with these requirements are subject to hefty fines and put their reputation at risk.
What type of electronic equipment do you accept?
Computers (CPUs), monitors, printers, scanners, fax machines, photocopiers, cell phones, VCR/DVD/CD players, game systems, stereos, televisions and other electronic devices. For a complete list of materials we accept, click here. If you have a question about a material please call us.
What happens to my confidential electronic data?
Upon request, all hard drives and all other electronic media will be sanitized and/or physically destroyed in accordance with the DOD Standard 5220.22-M in our facility's high security area. WeRecycle! provides Certificates of Destruction (pdf) for these services.
Why are obsolete electronics so hazardous?
Used electronic equipment contains toxic components such as lead, mercury, cadmium and beryllium. If these toxins are released into the ground or air, they can damage our health and environment. See what other Poisons are in a PC (pdf).
Does WeRecycle! accept other types of hazardous materials?
Yes, we recycle a variety of items containing hazardous waste (often called Universal Waste) such as fluorescent light bulbs, batteries and mercury containing equipment. . For a complete list of materials we accept, click here.
What is WeRecycle!'s process for recycling hazardous materials?
WeRecycle! strives to go beyond industry standards by selecting the most environmentally sound management and recycling methods available for all materials processed. For more information see our recycling process page.
Do you provide Certificates of Recycling?
WeRecycle! provides Certificates of Recycling (pdf) for all materials processed.
How is my equipment removed?
WeRecycle! has their own fleet of trucks to pick up your materials right from your location. (excluding residences). WeRecycle! properly packs all materials for transport to our facility. Transportation fees vary by location.
What are the costs for recycling these materials?
Fees vary depending on the specific items and quantities. Fees also vary depending on the program you have chosen with us. Please call for more specific pricing information.
What if I want to recover value from equipment?
WeRecycle! will work with you to obtain the best value for your reusable equipment. If resold, your organization will receive a percentage of the profit. Most importantly, all unusable equipment is dismantled and converted into reusable commodities in our own recycling facility, with nothing going to landfills.
Can I donate my computers and used electronics?
Yes, but a large portion of used electronics has little to no value for re-use. Much of what is given to charities or other organizations is not useable, and burdens the charity with the responsibility of disposal.
Are you licensed?
WeRecycle! operates in accordance with all applicable State and Federal regulations. We are fully permitted by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection to dismantle used electronics at our facility.
