DATA SECURITY
Organizations have never had to be more vigilant to ensure that their proprietary and confidential data is properly destroyed when electronics reach the end of their lifecycle. Conventional electronic data security practices are often prone to failure and new laws such as HIPAA and FACTA require specific industries to implement and document all electronic data destruction procedures. More often, businesses are turning to companies that specialize in IT asset recovery in order to meet rigid data security requirements and ultimately help protect their liability.
Certified Data Destruction
WeRecycle!'s IT asset recovery services include secure and certified data destruction in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD) standard 5220.22-M and comply with HIPAA, Gramm-Leach-Bliley and other privacy protection laws. Our secure data destruction procedures are designed to include all types of technologies that contain sensitive information. This spans computer hard drives and servers, to loose CDs and floppy disks. Our customers receive detailed reports and certificates of destruction (PDF) for each item.
Security Process Flow
WeRecycle!'s data security management process involves a number of integrated steps and procedures that ensure all equipment is physically secure from the time it leaves the customer site until data destruction is documented. We understand that having a centralized and standardized process for all retired IT equipment security activities is crucial to preventing information security breaches.
- Electronics are escorted from the customer location and loaded by our screened personnel into one of our own secured, locked vehicles. Locks are inspected for tampering each time the driver returns to vehicle.
- Upon arrival at WeRecycle!'s facility, equipment is moved directly from the secured vehicle into a high security area where it will be sorted, weighed and inventoried. Each unit is assigned an inventory tag generated from our proprietary web-based auditing software.
- All equipment is then audited for reuse potential in our high security area.
- Auditors perform customer requested data destruction method for all electronic media (DoD overwrite, degaussing, physical destruction or a combination of these).
- Any DoD erased media in which destruction was not verified digitally due to a malfunction or error in the drive is physically destroyed via shredding.
- Customer identifying marks and asset tags are physically removed.
- Via our web-based auditing software, customers can see real-time progress on all data destruction activities at any time.
- Once destruction is verified (DoD erasure, physical destruction or both), customers receive detailed certificates of destruction for each piece of electronic media processed.
